The concept of dessert with this book is fantastic. The best way to present dessert to family and friends! I recently used the concept with a 'Rib Coof-Off" at a family gathering and everyone went bonkers over dessert. I explained the Four Dessert concept and they thought it genius; besides getting more than ONE dessert served. I mean who wouldn't appreciate that!I would recommend if you are not already a "star pastry baker" to invest in Sugar Rush by Johnny Iuzzini first; or get them both at the same time. I am currently walking through Sugar Rush, going through it chapter by chapter and it has been an amazing learning experience. I will probably venture into Dessert FourPlay on occasion, too, once I feel a little more confident in my abilities. I lightly read through it, love the combinations and how they are presented seasonally.Can't say for sure, but I have a feeling when I am done with these two books, I won't need to buy any other. I feel confident these will give me the experience I will need to create my OWN recipes. ; )

I have hundreds of cookbooks, but this one, by far, is the best dessert book I ever purchased. It was worth every penny. I've used numerous recipes out of this book with deliciously fantastic results. I've also learned how to perfect my ice cream making skills by reading this cookbook. If you want to hone your dessert making skills-this is the book for you!

I enjoyed looking at and reading this book and it shows well on the Kindle Fire . The recipes are probably more than a little to elaborate and esoteric for most of us mundane cooks but it is fun to read .

I bought this as a gift and my gf love it. She likes how this book is made and the recipes.

This book is beautiful. The photos and design are superb. The recipes are relatively (surprisingly) easy to follow -- however, it would be nice to have a pacojet (though you can always make due without one: I do).I would highly recommend this book if you're looking for culinary inspiration regarding dessert. Some of the dishes will force you to think outside of the box and take a new approach to sweets.I'm 4-starring to prevent review-inflation. If you're tempted to buy this book, you won't be disappointed (however, it is definitely short, especially next to books like joy of cooking, NYT desserts, etc.)

I lost my dog-eared copy and was missing it. These poems are remarkable, profound and beautiful.

As wonderful a poet as June Jordan was, this text is simply not accessible. I needed this for a poetry class, and while I appreciate her work very much, the amount of poems in this collection is too lengthy to take to a class, much less read in its entirety. Unless you are a Jordan fan, this is not a very good introduction into her work as it is daunting.

William is one of my favorite musicians of all time. It is through him and his great willingness to point towards those who have fanned his fires that I came to find June Jordan for myself. His "Poem for June Jordan" on the great albums, Corn Meal Dance and Sound Unity are what brought her name to my attention. I could never thank William enough for all the things he's given to me. Now along with Mayor of Punkville,The All-Star Game,Palm of Soul,Alphaville Suite and Raining on the Moon, the work of June Jordan is one of the major things.I checked this out from the library just thinking hey I've never heard of her so I'll give her a shot. I was hoping for the best but if I didn't like it, no harm done. Directed By Desire was on my Christmas List before my first day with it had ended. I stressed it. If I get it, it'll be the big gift. If I don't get it, it'll be what I buy the day after Christmas. As it stands now, I just pour over the library copy everyday. It's way too clean. Way too untouched. She has hit me like a hurricane. Based on the power of what is inside, this library copy should be tear-stained, dirty, battered and bruised. I don't get all the poems inside. As a writer she was beyond me. As a human I'm sure she was beyond me. The ones I don't yet get... the ones I may never fully get... they don't hurt the book. The way Who Look At Me, The End of Kindness, Kissing God Goodbye, Poem Because the 1996 Poet Laureate..., First Poem After Serious Surgery, etc... get to me... man. June was amazing. Alot of what's inside this book has me wiping tears from my eyes and saying again and again, "How is she not everywhere? How is it possible to go through school without a teacher, an older student, someone's parents telling me "hey kid, you might dig this June Jordan woman!"? I'm disappointed in myself for not finding her earlier. I want her to be in your life.So much of this is so personal. I don't mean personal in the oft heard "It's like she/he is saying what I wish I could say" sort of way. I mean there are poems where she's sitting 2 feet away from me, looking me right in the eyes and laying it all out in front of me with love. Or she's calling me out when I'm full of it. Some of you have been reading June's work since before I was born. I'll not pretend I know her the way you know her but for me, this book is huge. Even for you I'd say it's essential. It says the "Last Poems" were previously unpublished. I love many of those so for me, it'd be worth it even if I already owned everything else.This woman was a Goddess among us. It's a shame she had to live in our ugly world, but she didn't run from any of it.(2/9/08 edit - I got it for Christmas! It's even better when it's at your fingertips whenever you want it.)

I bought this book with the hopes that it would give me some ideas to live a more "real" Christianity. I have been in church my whole life, but I am always seeking out ways for the truth of the Gospel to be ever more relevant to my life and real in my life (because it is and should be!). This book was refreshing, interesting and included a lot of stories, examples and quotes to reinforce the main points - it challenges the very worldview we have as Christians and provides clear, practical steps for putting this new perspective into action. I probably will not now base my entire life and routine on the strategy of the book, but I will definitely be more aware of the points it emphasizes and seek to implement them in creative ways as I'm able. Well worth the money!

This is essentially a longer essay by Frost about the BELLS (Bless, Eat, Listen, Learn, Sent) missional practices. For a short read, Frost packs a lot of sense into this. He hesitates to provide such practical and model-able advice, however, I found that it was helpful to see what this looked like in his context so that I could contextualize it within my own. This would additionally work well as a primer for a small group or MC that was looking to get into some of the BELLS practices.

This is an excellent resource for any individual, small group, or congregation. Surprise the World! invites you to consider more deeply what evangelism truly means and how each individual can live out the practices of discipleship daily. It is a transformative resource for those who embrace the missional practices introduced. I highly recommend this book to every congregation that takes evangelism seriously, but especially to those who struggle with evangelism.

To be a first-century Christian meant to live a life counter-culturally. Your actions were questioned, and your generosity and love was surprising to all. This, truly, changed the world. To be a present-day Western Christian, well…is not surprising at all. It's no wonder that so many Jesus-followers desire to change the world, but see no fruit. It's because they blend in. This book is written to help you live a new life that's surprising, and loving, and world-changing, as God intended. Loved it.

Bless people more, eat and share meals with others in order to me more missional, take time to listen to the Spirit, spend a chunk of time each week learning more about Christ and journal how you have shared Christ in another's lives! Loved his 5 suggestions on how we can live more missional lives. I'm excited to put his suggestions into practice.

Michael Frost consistently breathes perspective into the church by focusing on the individuals. Jesus took time to speak to the individual person even while on the cross. There's something to be said about emphasizing the individual's spiritual growth in order to properly grow The Kingdom.

This book was incredible. It is a short, easy read and it is very conversational. I couldn't put it down. It has shifted my perspective on living out the Great Commission and using the gifts God has given me to share the Gospel where I am at. Highly recommend it if you don't know if you are "called" to missions or are looking for a different Biblical perspective on missions than what is typically preached in church.

Surprise the World is as life-practical as it gets. When it comes to what it means to live a Christian life, and what a disciple of Jesus' life is all about. Bless, Eat, Listen, Learn, Serve are all behaviors we all do, or can do, every week, if not every day. It does surprise the world to learn that's what following Jesus is all about. Michael Frost, true to what the book is about, writes of what he has lived and experienced in life. I can live this book, teach this book, and watch it make a difference in the world!

This is not a book of pretty pictures of dream bathrooms and kitchens to get ideas from. This is a small manual packed with very concise diagrams and measurement standards for kitchen and bath layout including wheelchair access. It clearly illustrates proper distances, widths, heights and clearances for code requirements as well as most efficient use of space. Very valuable tool for new construction plans as well as a remodel. I doubt you will find a less wordy, more clear and concise book on the topic. I highly recommend this book if you are going to draw up your own house plans or remodel a kitchen or bath.

I'm a low-income college student and bought this in lieu of the 90 dollar full size NKBA books (I use those at the library as needed). I use this book pretty constantly, and will likely continue to do so until I've committed all of these measurements to memory.It's 50 pages or so... concise and without much flowery language. Theres a glossary in the front to get to the height of the toilet paper roll within a few lines of reading. The graphic design is *ok*... but I don't know that there's any competition or reason to design it into anything other than a handy reference.Worth every penny.

Took care of my handicapped father (as promised) after becoming handicapped from a stroke. Caring for him in a "traditionally" build house was not easy, actually it was a nightmare. One doesn't think of these things when they are young and healthy, but wait until life slap you with health problems, then dealing with it's short comings become a daily battle. Now intend to move and build my "last" aging friendly home (society has changed, caring for aging family is too much work). Will use the info in this book to help keep from making mistakes that that might not be easily overcome. It is a "small" book, but the info is essential for planning purposes. Additional observation: The handicapped showers as configured in this book are too small considering when one may need help while showering. Having a handicapped shower that will accommodate 2 people, one seated and the other standing (CNA) makes the task easier. Even after having some surgeries and you want to recuperate at home with home care (i.e., not a permanent disability) having a real water bath vrs. a "bed bath" (YUCK) is a luxury.

This is an excellent resource. Both the booklet and the digital App that Amazon sells is extremely useful. I am an interior design instructor, and I require my students to have access to the NKBA, National Kitchen and Bath Association guidelines for space planning residential kitchens and bathrooms. Whether you are a design student, or a savvy home remodeler, you must use this easy-to-read guide as the premise for starting any project. This guide will ensure that you are able to design a bathroom or kitchen space safely and efficiently. As an added bonus, this covers ADA, Americans with Disabilities Act, guidelines as well. I think this manual should be in every builder's, contractor's, and home owner's library.

This is a very handy book if you're looking for a quick summary of both minimum code values when remodeling your kitchen or bath, but also gives best practices for exceeding the code to make for a functional kitchen or if you need to account for increased accessibility needs. I've also reviewed the full NKBA textbook for Kitchen Planning and while people that really like a lot of information may enjoy (the heft of) that book, I think this book of cliff notes will work well for most people contemplating a remodel.

We are finishing a basement (including adding a full bathroom) and remodeling a kitchen. Within minutes, I've already got tabs in the book and can see why the current layout of the kitchen doesn't work. This book is full of very useful information and it's easy to read and understand!
