I love the product itself but it came with the back pages glued together and I had to rip it a little bit to actually see the back of it, and the back cover part is bent and glued together :/. Which makes me sad because I really want this to be my go to Bible. And it will be but I wish it would've been in new condition and not ruined :(. These pictures are how it came out of the box, brand new :(. I wish I could get a hold of the company but I can't seem to find out how.

The hardcover is kind of sticky and the pages are unbelievably thin. It's hard to read because you can see the words from the next page bleeding through, and it is really hard to even get a hold of a page to turn. Super disappointed.

This bible is absolutely stunning. I love that it is hardback, it feels sturdy and easily carried around. The Key Verse illustrations are beautiful. I was concerned when I ordered this bible because other reviews said the pages were very thin. In my opinion. these pages are not any thinner than any other study bible I have owned. I have used both pen and pencil to write in the margins and underline the text and haven't had any issues with tearing. This would be a gorgeous gift for someone.

While I love the heart and ministry of She Reads Truth, and I appreciate the time and effort that went into creating this Bible, I have to echo what so many others have said. The pages are SO THIN! So much (all) of the other side of every page is so visible that it is completely distracting. I had to return it. I was truly disappointed, as this could have been such a great Bible. Exactly what I want, but unusable. I was also very disappointed to see someone from She Reads Truth respond to a question saying they aren't ever planning an update with thicker pages. If that happened, I would be thrilled and wouldn't hesitate to buy again.

I love this bible! Only down side is the pages are really thin so it's hard to mark in it unless you want your pen bleeding through the page. But it is an awesome study bible.

I read "blink" and "The Tipping Point" together over the span of a week. Both books were very interesting and touched on similar insights into human behavior and psychology. "The Tipping Point" was similar in style to "blink" in that it presented a small handful of themes over and over to prove the premise the author initially laid out at the beginning of the book. Which is, of course, very convenient for the author. Gladwell essentially has a theory for why cool fads and trends catch on, and in writing this book he appears to have scoured a mixed bag of scientific and non-scientific psychological studies and historical observations to support his theory. The problem with this method is that its not the best way to prove the validity of a theory.One of the most excruciating passages in the book is when Gladwell tries to argue that former ABC news anchor Peter Jennings successfully swayed voters with his facial expressions in the early 1980's. A study apparently suggested that Jennings made favorable facial expressions while introducing stories about Regan but had a neutral face when introducing stories about Walter Mondale, and this caused viewers to change their voting habits. The author seriously tries to make his case solely on the fact that post-election ABC viewers were more likely to say that they voted for Regan than Mondale. It never even occurs to the author (even for a fleeting moment) that maybe ABC news viewers were/are more conservative as a group and thus predisposed to vote for a conservative candidate anyway. The sentence "Because serial killers drink milk, milk drinking must cause people to become serial killers" is a classic example of a Gladwell "proof."Taken as a whole, this book is a bit scary because its a likable best seller, but its unfortunately a sort of misguided Fox News or USA Today version of what could be a very interesting discussion. I hope more books will be written in this area, because it truly is a realm that needs more analysis.

Revere had two of the three traits Gladwell identifies as necessary to the spread of social trends: he was a Connector and a Maven. Revere had a vast rolodex of acquaintances in colonial Massachusetts and he knew everything there was to know about the nascent independence movement. He set the scene for resistance to the onmarching British, and a few local men of Gladwell’s third type, the Persuaders, finished the job of rallying the militias of Concord and Lexington. Gladwell is adept at explaining the academic research that led to such popular ideas as “six degrees of separation” and relating such social science experimentation to his overall theme of how change happens. He goes deeply into the discoveries about learning that led to the success of “Sesame Street” and “Blue’s Clues”—these shows’ producers used the idea of “stickiness” to instill basic principles and values in pre-schoolers. The “broken windows” theory of policing gets a thorough explainer, including a side trip into how do-gooding seminarians can allow themselves to avoid being good Samaritans. Advertising is one of the great accelerators of trends, and Gladwell marshals a few Madison Ave. case studies to show how commercials tip us into parting with our hard-earned cash. As Usual, Malcolm Gladwell is a great story teller. The book is about the small things that can make huge changes. The book is interesting and fun to read, but there are two big problems:a) Malcolm Gladwell is not a scientist, and he lacks the skepticism which is so mauch an important part of science. He starts with the story of the crime fall in NY that came shortly after the start of the "broken windows" policy. The "fact" that the "broken windows"policy made such a huge change serves him well for his arguments, but there is a problem here. the claim that the "broken windows" policy was the main factor in reducing the crime at that time in NY, is an assumption, and by now we have strong reasons to believe that it played only a mior role in the crime reduction. Other factors such as reduction of lead in fuel have much stronger correlation with the crime reduction, and in many other places, as well, while efforts to replicate the "broken windows" policy elsewhere did not produce the same results. So his first chapter is about a nice but false story that if it was true, was showing an interesting nature of how vast changes in behavior happen.The second problem, is that the book was written before that Internet became a major player in the field. By now it is problably the most major player, but the book describes how things were before the Internet became a major player. In this sense, the book describes how things were in another era. Things have completely changed since then.

If you are planning to get into DSP from a practical point of view, then there are only two books to get - and this is one of them. DSP is a complex subject, and if you are not in an educational environment where you have easy access to teachers who can advise you, then you could easily be turned off by diving into a book such as Schafer and Oppenheim's recognized text book on the subject. I am a retired ex-academic with an interest in signal processing, and decided to get back into the field, which had developed considerably since I was involved in basic continuous signal processing, which than revolved around Fourier analysis and integrals. I researched the market thoroughly and ended up purchasing Steven Smith's excellent book "The Scientist and Engineer's Guide to Digital Signal Processing", which gives a conceptual view of DSP without getting too involved in the mathematics of the subject. Having worked through this book and established a solid basis of what DSP is all about, I decided that I needed a little more mathematical support to the concepts, and settled on the current book. What a good choice. These two books are a perfect complement to each other, and the writing style of the authors is very similar. Anybody getting into DSP is strongly advised to purchase them both. But back to the current book - this book focuses on the reader and makes you feel that you are interacting with a teacher rather than puzzling over equations. It leads you gently through the concepts, but doesn't bypass thorough considerations of the development, for instance, of the Fast Fourier Transform, which can be quite intimidating. This is a chapter that you can scan through without disrupting the rest of the material. The book includes many exercises and - best of all - Rick Lyons has a DSP blog of tips and tricks where you can get invaluable information and interact directly with him. All in all, by purchasing this book you not only get a source-book of the practical application of DSP, but a wealth of support, and I have no hesitation in awarding it a 5-star rating.

I have just begun reading this book for self study aided by my engineering company. The book states that the solution manual is available to teachers (with proper credentials) by the editor which as far as I can tell is pearson and not prentice hall. Unfortunately, the people at pearson are not communicating with my "instructors" in regards to obtaining solution manual. This drawback, ie not being able to verify that problems are being done correctly limits the usefulness of this text and subsequently I have to reluctantly give this book only 2 stars for a rating.

Needs some solutions. This would be a great text book in a typical classroom setting, but, for a self-learner, I find it terribly dissatisfying that there are no solutions to the many problems provided in each chapter. I understand that the book loses value for the classroom if solutions are provided. But, again, from a self-learning perspective, I would give this book 5 STARS if even half of the problem solutions were provided (e.g. odd numbers only), or, if there were even just a small subset of challenging problems/solutions (5-7 for each chapter to capture the key concepts). This would make this text MUCH more valuable to me as a self-learner. I'm a "hand's on" learner. Almost everything makes sense to me when I read a well-presented topic. However, when I attempt to apply what I've learned, I often realize my understanding was inadequate. So working problems and being able to check solutions is absolutely critical to my learning. Add some problems with solutions and this book would be 5-star.

I am a sophomore undergrad EE student and I prefer to read the material then go to lectures. Unfortunately, the books for my courses do not explain things very clearly intentionally to make the reader "think" so it can be very frustrating when trying to solve a problem. This book brings thing down from the almighty prestigious mystical rigorous pedestal and is like having grandpa explain things. It is an excellent reference and many times I ended up saying "that's it...? That is all I had to do?" after reading a few pages.The down side is that there are no selected answers in the back of the book, the solution manual is locked down, and even Chegg does not have guided answers. So if you want to reach yourself DSP, you will probably need a more traditional textbook with a solution manual (usually an older edition).

We get to know a number of characters really well, as most have a chapter or more devoted to them and the role they play in the life of Sadie Blue. Sadie's a young girl who has known only the Appalachian culture - and she's made a sad mistake in marrying a monster.The town of Baines Creek has hired a new teacher for the one room school, which brings out the town's feelings about this "jasper", who knows nothing about their ways. Preacher Eli, has known the "different" - having been to the valley for his education. Birdie, the "medicine woman", cures most ills with her vast array of herbs and potions, while walking around with a crow nesting in her topknot. Marris and Gladys, Sadie's grandmother and aunt, have perfected the art of bickering over almost everything. Roy, Sadie's monster-husband, and his sidekick, Billy, are mostly drunk and up to no good - hunting, trapping and minding their still. Roy surfaces to beat Sadie regularly. Sadie's friends and relatives are concerned about her safety, particularly when she becomes pregnant.If the Creek Don't Rise, conveys an authenticity about Appalachian life, that few know about or understand. The reader feels the truth in this tale of life there in the 1970's, and wonders how that culture has progressed. Is it still the land of outhouses and "revenuers" (probably called ATF now)? In this regard, the story is a learning experience, with a desire to learn more.Rarely are readers given such well-rounded descriptions of characters and place. The plot moves along and becomes a page-turner. Weiss's comfortable prose (and the dialect, once you're used to it!) make this a thoroughly comfortable read that you don't want to end. Getting to the end employs some twists and turns and a satisfying conclusion, however. So, will we hear from the good folks of Baines Creek again? This reader hopes so!

I read the majority of reviews and they were predominately favorable. In a nut shell I simply do not understand how any body could possibly enjoy reading this book. I so hoped to like it and unfortunately that was not the case. Surprisingly though, the first chapter piqued my interest. I felt compelled to follow poor Sadie Blue's journey. Hoping she would eventually escape the brutality of her evil husband. However the story line disintegrated when the emphasis was revolved around the characterization of the preacher. It was endless, monotonous, and just plain boring! . Bottom line Sadie's journey had taken a back seat. Clearly this was not a book I would recommend to anyone I know!

I started reading this book last night about 10pm. After reading for a while I went to sleep and then woke up early to start again. The book was finished before 10am. I absolutely loved the story. I felt like I'd just gotten done watching a great movie. The characters all came to life and it left you with that "great book satisfaction" that also leaves you longing for more. I am excited to see more work by this author in the future. I'm glad I took a chance and branched out from my regular authors. I think I have a new favorite.

I absolutely LOVED this novel. The title and book cover on Kindle 'spoke to me' and is very often the case, I was NOT disappointed. I love reading stories that take place in this part of the country - because I know nothing about what it's like to have been born/grow up/live there. There is nothing I can possibly add to the wonderful Editorial reviews, oh how I wish I could write like they do. I am a HUGE highlighter so here are some passages to hopefully whet your appetite. I found the author's writing incandescent.I feel a better, more educated person for having read this novel."A bright spot of sunshine holds her in its beam and shines through her skimpy dress. Her baby bump is the size of a honeydew.""When I'm done, I pull the chew outta my pocket and head to the porch glider like I always do to ponder troubles that stay too long. Sadie showing up jumped her to the head of the worry line.""Marris used to have hair as red as coals cooked down in a fire. Walter would say in a rare time he was being funny, 'You stick dough in hair that red, it woulda baked into a biscuit'"."Church always got a smell bout it that don't sit right with me, and it gives me the itches. Maybe it's that fake hope that hangs in the air, frustrated cause nobody gets much back from praying.""It's strange how some folks tella tale. They go round and round cause the story is a little biddy thing that needs a lot of fluff to make it big enough to be told in the first place. I hate this part of gossiping.""Truth always hurts and it's extra hard to look at late in life."There is the chapter in the novel whereby you learn where the book title came from (which always intrigues me). A child asks "Are we gonna die?" And the mother replies "From a storm? No child. We're safe here." And the father adds "If the good Lord's willing and the creek don't rise." Which is exactly how I heard it growing up."I first heard about a 'murder of crows' at seminary. I came upon many poetic and odd phrases found in literature and mentally filed them away: an ostentation of peacocks, a parliament of owls, a knot of frogs, and a skulk of foxes. My favorite is the crows.""The sun finds the silver strands entwined in her dark hair growing on the head that holds the brain I admire.""If this is what love feels like, why would anyone seek it out and want to hold on to it? It hurts so much I can't breathe right. Food is tasteless. Sleep has been elusive these recent weeks. To move my arms and legs simultaneously is a weighty chore.""More than Nana's feet turned cold that night, and me and my blanket couldn't make her warm. When Nana whispered, "Sweet Jesus, I'm ready," I heard him take her, like an open window with a breeze going out stead of in.""I went to the Asheville library to find the backstory on Appalachia and was directed to a pitifully small section in the dusty stacks. In all I found, the message was repetitious: this has always been an isolated community, stretching across parts of thirteen states, a parallel existence, backward from the civilized world that has morphed into the modern day, leaving these people behind......" "Mamas and mean men shouldn't mess with growing boys."Be sure to read "A Conversation with the Author" after the end of novel....wonderful insight into the author.The ending of the novel is brilliant. Perfect.

The author spent the first 90% of the book building a fascinating story and characters you want to know more about. The last 10% is spent on two unsavory characters and then the book abruptly ends. Abruptly and oddly.You have no idea what happened to the characters you got to know.Maybe she had too much info for one book and decided to do a sequel? I know what started out as a great book ended as a mediocre one.
