The world of sailing, fishing and crabbing are a world that is foreign to me. I have never been on a fishing boat or to Cape Cod for that matter and I felt that the author did a great job of explaining those worlds. I really felt I was on those boats with these men. I could feel myself getting cold and waterlogged. The only thing I found confusing is keeping some of the boats and crews straight but the author to his credit always tries to help the reader with this. I loved the book. I read it in three days. The horror of the storm that these men experience is palpable. It makes me so appreciative for the wonderful work of the US Coastguard and the bond between men who fish the sea's. I really enjoyed this book.

I read this book in one day. And I'm getting ready to buy another, by the same author. I see one about the Blizzard of '78. That interests me. As well as other, seafaring books. I don't think I will ever get tired of reading books by this author. I'm getting ready to look his books up by "author" If I was rich I would buy them ALL. This book was fantastic. Sad but fantastic.

Author Tougias does a commendable job of putting us right in the middle of a raging storm at sea, a storm that would take, both, ships and men to the bottom of the sea, but that miraculously fails to take the life of one man so intent on survival, that the sea can't claim him among her victim's. Tougias' interviews with survivors of this tragedy gives the reader a good idea of the character of the people whose lives were written about in this book, making the story "hit home,"as if we were acquaintances of those involved in this remarkable tale. Definitely worth reading, especially for those of us who enjoy action-packed stories about "man vs. nature."

Great story, I like it even better than "10 Hours Until Dawn", mainly because there were first person accounts to base everything off of. I served as a Surfman for ten years on the WA seacoast and found it absolutely incredible that boats of the design and size of these offshore lobster boats could survive this sort of weather. On another note, I now want to buy other books by this author, I very much like his writing style, very nice flow of words, minimal goofy puns that I seem to find in survival type books.

This book gave me such a deep appreciation of the work of the Coast Guard, the training required to serve, and the dangers they experience as they try to save ships off the coasts of our country. It also showed me the dangers involved in being a fisherman in any size ship or serving on any size ship during a storm. This book would make a great movie!!!!! I couldn't put it down. I have read several other books by the same author and will continue to look for other books by this author because of the details within these books and the research he does in preparing to write about these subjects. Fascinating and suspenseful.

This is a spell binding true story of survival at sea when all should have been lost. I love how the author also tells about the courage of the Coast Guard and a crew of a fishing boat who risked their own lives to save others. The amazing thing about this true story is that there were survivors. - Praise God! It is an excellent story of surviving 65 feet waves and managing to spend 50 hours afloat in the stormy open sea and live to tell about it. It is truly an unforgettable story of the collision of nature and the human will to survive. It is well written and well researched and very well worth taking the time to read. I don't think you will forget this true story or the author - Michael J. This is one of the best books I've ever read. I worried at first that it might be too technical for me to follow since I know very little about this type of fishing and boats, but that wasn't the case at all. Mr. Tougias writes in a very clear and understandable way and made it easy for me to feel I was right there on Georges Bank. It is a fascinating story and very well told. If you enjoy books based on true events, I highly recommend this book! I couldn't put it down!
