I gave my daughter an old princess pop-up book with elaborate pop-ups (castles over 6" tall, multiple flaps, etc.) She absolutely loved it and asked for more pop-up books. I purchased this and one other (The Wide-Mouthed Frog) in hopes of keeping her interest.The book is short, only a few pages. The pop-ups aren't very elaborate or large.Yes, it's a pop-up book. Unfortunately it's not quite elaborate as the princess pop-up book from 20 years ago...

I think this book is fantastic! My nephew is 2 and he is really into dinosaurs right now. The pop outs are awesome! I knocked it down by 1 star because there are ony like 4 pages this whole book. I wish there were a couple more pages since the kiddos love looking at the pop-out Dinos, but they still love it.

Calling all DINO Lovers!!!! This book is a must for any little dinosaur loving child. Very vibrant and educational for younger learners! I would suggest age 2 and below be supervised with this book as the pop-ups may tear out of the book easily (this is just my personal experience.)

I helped my husband pick this set of 3 pop up books for a 5 year old boy. His father’s in the military. My husband was his secret Santa. What 5 year old doesn’t like dinosaurs? Cute & colorful, the pop ups were not too delicate for little hands. The other books were about dolphins and a frog. So i thought .. perfect! I hope he’s enjoying his books!

I used this book with my 3 1/2, 4, and 5 year old students. However, the children were not as curious about the book as they were with other Pop-Up books I have. Also, I found the names of the dinosaurs a little difficult to pronounce. In addition, my class have more girls than boys. Not many of the girls in my classes take interest in dinosaurs. However, the pictures in the book are fantastic. I will add this book to my children's library.Edna

My child love this book, he loves dinosaurs. Maybe a little too much, he decide to get out of bed one night, and stealthily remove all of the dinosaurs from the book. The next morning I found a torn up carcas of a book in the corner of the room. I saw traced it back to my little pet dinochild. Great quality book though, my child consumed it, literally.

17 month old tore away two dinos within minutes of being left alone with this book :( Husband was very sad because he loved the book so much. So did toddler but he just couldn’t help himself I guess. Wish it was sturdier material.

The Paris Seamstress was my first of Lester's books, and I was looking forward to the read after finding glowing reviews here and on Goodreads.Lester's a talented writer, and I have no quarrel with her skill. My problem is with the storyline and characters, whom I struggled to like or relate to.The young Estelle is selfish, (sometimes) clueless, and unappealingly self-absorbed. I pushed through her shallowness in the beginning of the book because I wanted to see what the hype was about. Thankfully, she improves a little in old age. Her granddaughter, Fabienne, is too unrealistic in her attitude toward her work. (I realize that this is fiction, but who's going to be able to just jet off right after starting her "dream job?") Sam's repression of his love for Estelle is pathetic; the man would declare himself earlier, especailly if he's man enough for Estelle at the end. The male romantic leads are too perfect: handsome, manly, romantic.The story seems formulaic, and the author glosses overmost of the horrors of the war. (It's not a documentary, but Lester's depiction of Occupied Paris is too sanitized.) And I'm tired of books that bounce between generations. Been there, done that. It's as if authors can't find enough to build a story in one generation, and think, "Hey! Let's add an ancestor's story to flesh things out!"All in all, the book disappointed me. I won't be reading another of Lester's works.

This novel was somewhat interesting as I love the time period, but the story was just unbelievable and the characters were very stereotyped. The story line is okay, rather predictable, and this book does not compare with The Nightingale or House on the Rue Amelie.

The Paris Seamstress is by Natasha Lester. It is a story of sacrifice, second chances, bravery, and courage. It is also the story of love between Mother and Child.Estella was the head of Stella Designs out of New York. She had come to the United States from Paris. At that time, all she knew was that her Father was an American. She had no idea who he was but it gave her a way to get into the United States at this time. She had jeopardized her place in Paris when she delivered a package to a spy when a friend asked her to. In order to save her life, her Mother sent her to the US with only a suitcase and her sewing machine. Through her perseverance, her love of designing, help from others, and lots of luck, she managed to create her own designs and make a name for herself in the United States. When she died, her estate went to her granddaughter, Fabiene who when she found her Father’s birth certificate realized he was not Estella’s child except by adoption. Her search to find out the truth about her ancestry takes her from New York City back to Paris during World War II. This is the story of her quest to find out who Estella really was.The book is easy to read and takes you back to World War II and its aftermath. It is well-written and is very interesting.

The characters are engaging or interesting, as is the time setting, which gives a clear picture of the era in small portraits. There were two things that really detracted from my being fully staged in it. The first and most egregious was the way shift to conclusions some of the characters jumped to conclusions based on unverified beliefs. Really, it was aggravating and seemed inconsistent with the seemingly bright characters so it felt contrived for plot purposes.The second aggravation was the skipping around in time. it did not work to enhance the story the way it should was done

I originally downloaded a free preview of this novel issued by Hatchette from Netgalley. After enjoying the four chapter taster, I bought and read The Paris Seamstress in full.Told from a duel point of view, the narrative switches between the two female protagonists; Estella Bissette's life as a seamstress, living in nineteen-forty Paris before she is forced to flee to America to begin a new life. Fabienne Bissette, Estella's granddaughter brings the story to the present time as she delves into her family's past after her father, Xander died.Filled with heartbreaking intrigue, the shocking discoveries made by Fabienne certainly add darkness to the riveting narrative. Fear not, there are plenty of high points too. With equally fascinating characters who pull everything together in this well-researched page-turner.'That a piece of clothing could do so much. That it had power beyond the fabric and the thread and the pattern.'It's always a delight to learn something new when reading a novel and I particularly enjoyed learning the fascinating details and techniques used by seamstresses working on couture designs. The insightful inclusion by the author is a fascinating embellishment for this curious reader. It's always a treat to finish a book knowing more than I did before I began.My favourite reads for 2018 have mostly been those with a historical theme and The Paris Seamstress is definitely one which leaves a lasting impression.

This book is absolutely beautiful. It tells the story of a young Estelle Bissette who escapes France weeks before the Germans arrive and lands in New York penniless but determined to break into the fashion industry. One is completely absorbed in her joie de vivre as she perseveres in this brutal business. The story is complex and rich in characters and laced with a great love. Her grand daughter Fabienne's continuation of her grandmother's legacy takes one into 2015. Ms. Lester takes you through the alleys of The Marais at a frightening pace and then through the steam and bustle of Seventh Avenue in the Garment District in New York. Her descriptions of couture and emotionally heartbreaking love deserve my rating of 5 stars. A wonderful read. Thank you Natasha Lester for sharing your gift.

Long time listener of the BBS preordered the book and started reading it as soon as it got here today ... If youve been a listener for a while then you have heard most of the stories but it was also cool to get a glimpse into Bobby's head about what he was going through/feeling at certain times of his life .. I do wish it would of been a little longer and went into more of the relationship between him and the rest of the members of the show .. All in all though I did enjoy the book and even though I didn't buy the audiobook for some reason I could hear Bobby's voice in my head as I read it 😂

Very raw look into the real Bobby Bones. Heartbreaking at times. It made me want to just give him a huge hug. I've always loved listening to The Bobby Bones Show each morning during my commute to work but I have a new level of respect for Bobby after reading his book. FIGHT. GRIND. REPEAT.

This is seriously one of the saddest, most entertaining books I have ever read. I love the very personal touch of this book and even if you don't know who Bobby Bones is, you absolutely love him (as I do) or you don't like him (I can't imagine if you have ever listened to him), you can't help but feel his struggles as well as his success throughout this book. If you have never had the addiction struggles in your family as he had in his, it gives you an inside look at how addiction affects every single person you are around; it is not just the addicts problem. I feel like this book gave me a better understanding of how a child of addiction feels and since I work with kids who have similar situations, this was a great eye opener for me, but there is so, so, so much more in this book than just that. Thank you Bobby Bones for being so open throughout this book; you have no idea how much you have touched and inspired peoples lives just being you.

I've listened to the Bobby Bones show everyday for the past two years...the very first time I heard the show was right after I moved from my little hometown in SC to FL for my daughter to attend a special school for kids with autism. Our whole life had been uprooted so she could have a chance at a future and we were all pretty homesick with no friends or family nearby. As I found the radio station by chance and heard Bobby talking to a woman who called in and was crying because her dog was sick and she couldn't afford the surgery needed, he offered to pay the vet bill for her so she wouldn't lose her dog, I was hooked. We've listened ever since that day, every day and have been to a Raging Idiots concert, bought the Pimpin Joy shirts and felt like we've become part of the family as we've celebrated Lunchbox's wedding and mourned the sickness and then loss of Amy's mom and everything in between. I identify with a lot of Bobby's story about his childhood and issues that he deals with surrounding it and wish him and the entire crew nothing but the best as they continue, hopefully for a very long time, to come to us each day, making us laugh, cry and feel like part of the family.

When Bobby Bones replaced the morning show I had listened to while driving to work for the past couple of years, I was NOT happy. But I had to listen to SOMETHING on my drive to work, and I'm a creature of habit (or stubborn), so I refused to change the station.It took me about a week to get over my upset and absolutely fall in love with the Bobby Bones show. Yeah, a whole week. Amy is sweet, Lunchbox is obnoxious, and Bobby is a true breath of fresh air.When he said he was writing a book, I couldn't wait to read it. It took me about 3 sessions to read through it.I don't know what the negative reviewers are complaining about. Okay, so Bobby writes like he talks, not like someone writing an essay for an English grammar class. So what! I like how he talks, and the fact that he wrote that way kept my interest. And to the reviewer who has lost respect for him.... I don't understand why... Here is an imperfect guy writing about his imperfect life. I completely get it. I respect him for it. He has trust issues. I get that, too.The guy is real. He had a not-great childhood (overall). He was dirt poor. But he figured it out and he moved on. Okay, the "stuff" still lives in his head - hey, I have stuff from my past that won't go away, too, and if someone tells me they DON'T have "stuff" from their past, I will say that person is lying - to me AND to him/herself. But Bobby has and is making lemonade out of the lemons - for other people. He helps people -- because of where he came from. He calls that selfish. I call it remarkable.(Oh, and he likes dogs. That makes him a-OK in my book.)I hope Bobby finds his "happy ever after", but even if he never finds Ms. Right, I think he's doing just fine.I loved the book. I'll read it again at some point. I HIGHLY recommend this book.

At a point in my life when everything was going wrong, I stumbled upon Bobby Bones' morning show. I didn't even like country music but I was drawn to his positive attitude. Listening to his show quite possibly saved my life as it was a solitary ray of sunshine in the darkest storm of my life. He has endured a lot of terrible things and hearing him choose joy, to persevere, and to keep pushing to not only make his life better but the lives of those around him better, inspires me daily. His story isn't eloquently written nor sophisticated, and it isn't incredibly cerebral or complicated in its telling either. But it is very raw, real, motivating, and honest. He is vulnerable in telling his story and it's obvious that he is telling it to not only show the reader that they aren't alone out there, but he's telling it so he won't feel alone in his journey through life.

Good book, most if not all the stories I had heard before but Bobby goes into more detail than on air. Overall on the book grading scale ....overall I give Bare Bones 4 out of 5 stars. Minus one star because I still want to know what happen to Carlos ?

I would have given up to three stars if the rough, awkward English were the only problem. This book is riddled with typos, inconsistencies and errors, including in the most critical of the content, such as function names and syntax. It amazes me the examples in the screenshots were not correctly copied and pasted onto the pages.The gist might be acceptable for a rough introduction, but I cannot say for sure until I read a real MongoDB book, or better yet, the online documentation. So much for taking a break from the computer to read in bed!

This book (1 hour reading) should be taken as a short introduction. It explains clearly basic concepts, but nothing about embbeded (single or multiple) documents.

Learning the leading NoSQ data such as MongoDB is not an easy feat but this book does a great job in the why and how to use it! I highly recommend this book.

If you want to started with document oriented db this is book covers the most used queries to get you up and running.

I have done some reasarch into nonSQL databases, and am looking to start working with Mongo. This book covers the basics, which I knew, but put them together in a convent place.I'm still looking for a good goto guide about securing a Mongo database. That just isn't covered in the book..

When this book was first published, single deck blackjack was a common game in Nevada casinos. However, with the advent of casinos using 7 or 8 decks of cards dealt from a shoe, many of the strategies in this book will not work well. The best point of the book is explaining the "basic strategy" of when to hit, stand, double-down, and split pairs based on the dealer's up card. Following the basic strategy will give the player the best odds, but is no guarantee that the player will beat the dealer.

Just a classic book. While Thorp was far from the first person to count cards, his experience's and idea's were great. A must read for any counter/Blackjack player. Even though single deck games now either suck or don't exist, this book is still worth it.

This is the original book of how to beat the casinos and it worked for decades. The MIT teams that went on to fame in movies and books used this systems and variations on it. It will no longer work in today's casinos but if you dig math and you enjoy gambling and the idea of beating the system - this is for you.

First, I was not sure if I really wanted to read and learn about gambling techniques. Is important to notice that gambling and trading there's a plethora of books that sell you a five days recipe to learn a "secret" that is going to make you grossly richer than any neighbor of yours. Well, "unfortunately," this book is not about that bothersome crap that rarely works, if they work at all. What you will find in this book is a technique to beat the dealer and fun while learning to do so. I honestly do not think Ed. Thorp's a charlatan, really, he is the real thing. He knows what he was writing almost 50 years ago. In short, this book is a must for anyone interested in gambling and trading, notably, the Kelly Criterion is cited somewhere in the book.

Tried multiple QFT books but kept on coming back to Maggiore's book.Maggiore exposes the reader only to the important topics and succeeds in explaining most them in 265 pages; in comparison, Sredniki's Quantum Field Theory is > 600 pages while Peskin & Schroeders' An Introduction To Quantum Field Theory (Frontiers in Physics) is > 800 pages!Maggiore's style is terse, so expect making progress one paragraph at a time. The good news is that rereading helps. Again this is unlike the above mentioned two classics where you can reread some sections all you want and still would not make progress.If you want to start with an easier introduction, try Robinson's Symmetry and the Standard Model: Mathematics and Particle Physics or even Griffith's Introduction to Elementary Particles. So Griffiths --> Robinson --> Maggiore would be a reasonable sequence of books to read.Five star is compared to other QFT books and does not imply this book is perfect. The binding comes out after some use, I found chapter 1 to be unnecessary, wish some topics were explained in more detail and wanted the Standard Model to be discussed at the end.

The other reviewer is right that the kindle edition is well put together. No tiny equations or rampant misprints, though there are some typos. Maggiore is an excellent educator and knows how to explain things. The book is on the short side at under 300 pages and it felt a little like a crash course in representation theory at the beginning. I feel however that I received a very solid foundation to the subject from this book and am glad I started with Maggiore. On a side note, the review by Joao Caetano Oliveira Carvalho bothers me in that the picture they provide is not of this book, it’s Landau and Livshitz V2! I also think it’s distasteful to review the shipping as opposed to the book itself but that’s secondary. I reported it but could not explain why it’s “abuse” or “inappropriate” and Amazon might not catch the issue as a result. I hope they do.

This book is the quickest way to learn a lot of qft at a deep level. If you are an advanced undergraduate (taken all the required undergrad courses and have sufficient math background) that is wanting to learn QFT, this is the best resource. If you tried reading peskin, but couldn't get past the first few pages of chapter 2, check this book out. I found it a pleasure to read, and all the concepts were explained in a way that I found to be the most comprehensible. Additionally it has solutions to all the problems in the book. I suppose the only downside of this book is that there is not a lot of material which is both a strength and a weakness. Because the book is so small it's less intimidating, but at the same time a lot of advanced material is left out(e.g. anomalies and ghost fields). For a grad course the book could be covered in a semester. I highly recommend this book to start off learning qft.

I agree with all the previous 5 star reviews, this is a great book as an intro to QFT.Just wanted to let everyone know it reads well on a Kindle, PC or iPad Air. The equations are very readable, as is the text.

if the reader has basic knowledge of quantum mechanics and introductory special theory of relativity, then this an excellent introduction to QFT without going into a deeper level.

With this excellent book the path that a cultivated layman should follow to fulfill his noble attempt to familiarize himself with QFT is firmly traced. He (or of course She) should first read David Griffiths' book, "Introduction to Elementary Particles" to acquire a general idea of what QFT is all about. Having done so, in a Landau scale 1 to 10, he will now be at level 9. He should then read Maggiore's book aiming for an incomparably deeper understanding of the field that will catapult him to level 5 (keep in mind that Landau placed himself at level three!). About Maggiore's book: The author in chapter two, about Lie, Lorentz, Poincaré groups, and representations, warns the reader that its understanding will not be a picnic.It is however apparent that the author has done the best (as also in the sections concerning Noether's theorem, Spinor fields and Dirac Equation, Lehmann-Symanzik-Zimmermann -reduction formula, Path Integral Quantization....) to clarify difficult issues. At the aimed level of the book I think that it was a good idea to limit the discussions to the low energy approximation of the electroweak theory, and to expound only the two main ingredients of the Standard Model, namely Yang-Mills theories and the Higgs mechanism.The best introductory book on the field in my opinion.

Clear and concise

Great book that cuts out a lot of the tediousness of QFT in other books and focuses on the mathematical structure of QFT. The hundred pages of QED scattering calculations in P&S is limited to a few pages with only quoted results in this book. Perhaps not ideal for a phenomenologist or experimentalist, but quite satisfying as a theorist.My one gripe with the book is that the fields are not wave functions. He continuously refers to phi, psi and A as "wave functions" throughout the entire book. This is completely wrong. They are just fields. QFT has a wave function even if it's never used. for a state |a> is just as much a wave function in QFT as it is in QM. QFT changes nothing about that. Calling phi, psi and A wave functions just contributes to the confusion most students have as separating those two ideas is hard enough as it is for rookies to QFT.
