I love Felix and Lane. The play off each other beautifully. Their disparate personalities shouldn't work together, but they do. Hilariously so.Felix is a constant source of interest and humor, playing off Lane flawlessly. Lane has his moments of payback, but he is, for the most part, a well-played "straight man" (pardon the pun) with an eerie Matrix thing going on that occasionally freaked me out a little.This storyline is deliciously creepy, and the secondary characters are well written and eager to screw with the readers' mind. I'm not going to lie; I had bad dreams the night I read this. Oh so good!A Light In the Darkness is fast-paced and flows seamlessly from scene to scene.When I reread this book, I will sleep with the light on afterward.

I love this series! HIDDEN IN DARKNESS had me reading into the early morning. A LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS, I, at first, thought was going nowhere but it was nice reading about Lane and Felix again. Felix, as before, is quick with the snark, irreverent and inappropriate but very funny and Lane is his bulwark, protector. They stand together. As it turned out, the author was just reeling us in with the slow beginning because suddenly, pow! I was on the edge, breathing hard, angry, anxious, couldn't read fast enough. Get both books! They're good! 5* for this series.

I truly loved the second story of Lane and Felix as they try to find their “normal”. Felix’s brother appears after no contact for years and they fall headlong into another adventure. There are revelations about Felix’s family which are truly heartbreaking. Lane and Felix definitely belong to each other but Felix’s brother can break their bond.Laughed and sniffled my way through this book. Excellent story!

This is a well written story, and I liked it just as much as the first one. It had me on the edge of my seat more than once, and I was surprised to find out who was behind it all, I'm usually pretty good at guessing it, but I didn't guess this one.There were a few typos, but not enough that it was annoying. I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait for the next one.

Funny, terrifying, and you’re never sure exactly what’s going on until near the end. Lane and Felix and Copper are a great team, and there were spots I burst out laughing from Felix’s dialogue.

This book is so much fun. I'm glad this was my day off, so I could spend it reading about Felix and Lane's insane adventures. I just hope there's a third book in the series. And a fourth, and a fifth, and so on.

I love Felix!!! He and Lane are perfect together. Felix can't stop his snarky comments and Lane understands that they reveal Felix's insecurities and his emotions. I am glad Felix has a family now that can share their love with him!.

I love this series and the best couple, Lane & Felix. I hope that Ms. Winters writes more books with these two guys! Please! Read and you will not be disappointed.

I bought this book to replace what I lost in a fire.

I used to watch "The New Yankee Workshop" every week. I did not think then Norm had books. I found a collection here and now I am the proud owner.

Book arrived promptly and was in "very good condition", as was advertised. I was very pleased with this, my first purchase from Net Books Warehouse and would purchase again from this company. If you are as fond of watching Norm build projects as I am, you would love reading his comments in this book. I started reading it the minute it arrived and read about several projects before putting it down. I hope to purchase several more of his books in the future.

I bought this book as a gift and it seems to have been well-received and enjoyed. It's the sort of book that can be referred to many times.

This is another fine book by Norm. I have all of his books except one. Outdoor projects is good. I havent had the time to build any of these yet, but there are some good projects in the book .

This Norm Abram book is really good if you're interested in some simple classic outdoor related projects that are still usefull, beautiful and fun to make.It also has some stand out projects that really caught my eye, specifically the reproductions of classic colonial fences. I can't think of anywhere else that I have ever seen these fences described and with plans and techniques for what ultimately constitute a small scale production run.I also really liked the planters in the book. I've made a few of these out of redwood. They've lasted for years and still look fantastic. Of course, all of mine were built using mortise and tenon versus a few of these that had some biscuits. I still may go back in and build a couple of these planters exactly as Norm designed them. They are timeless classics and still very beautiful.This book includes Norm's arbor, swing, the wheel barrow and a few other of his better projects. No, I probably won't build his sandbox and picnic table, but they are still interesting to read about and see how Norm built them.Overall, this is one of his better books. Probably only second to his book of Shaker Projects, but that one wasn't for outdoor stuff.

America has needed a book like this for a long time. Hoff's injects the grim reality of natural limits to population growth into the prevailing American exceptionalists' vision of unlimited abundance, eternal economic and population expansion, and faith in technological solutions to the resulting environmental damages.As he notes, both strands -- Malthusian limits and American exceptionalism -- have long competed in American social thought and political economy. At this stage, and for the last four decades, what he calls "Market Knows Best Demography," a neoliberal faith rooted in conservative laissez faire economics remains the offcial secular religion. But enduring recession in the western world, climate change, peak oil and world food shortages are mounting a challenge to that faith as never before. Hoff is at his best in describing how the triumph of conservative culture with laissez faire economic thought embodied in the Nixon administration overcame neo-malthusians' effort to officially commit the U.S. to population stability in the 1970-72 Rockefeller Commission on "Population and the American Future."Americans, without government direction, have brought their fertility down below replacement. But births forgone have been nulified by high and rising immigration, which could account for as much as 80 percent U. S. population growth (if immigrants' children are considered) betweeb 2000 and mid-century. Hoff's otherwise exhaustive work gives insufficient analysis and recognition to the immigration factor, at times suggesting that those who raise the immigration issue at all are suspected as crypto eugenecists or racists. Those recognizing limits to growth need his guidance and wisdom as to how our greatest population growth factor can be raised and debated with acceptable politcal correctness.Even so he has performed a major public service in detailing the ideologies in competion in determining how we got where we are, growing from a quarter million in 1700 to over 300 million now, to over 425 million by 2050, and to -- who knows? -- to nearly 600 million by the beginning of the next century. As it now stands, somehow the mysterious "market" will be left to decide that fateful outcome.

Excellent and balanced account of a host of critical issues, from family planning to immigration, that will play a large role in determining how bloody the 21s century will be.

As a person who spent many hours writing what was probably the first chronological history of the population movement in the U.S. ([...] I was delighted to find out this much more detailed book had recently been written. Having spent many hours researching and compiling that simple history it is hard for me to imagine how much time Derek must have spent writing this book. It is really amazing.I was kind of disappointed that the book kind of ends in the seventies when the population movement peaked but a lot has also happened since then and I hope that some time, if he still has the energy left, he'll do the last few decades.It is always extremely important to know where we have been to know why we are at the place we are today.Unfortunately younger people today don't know how active the movement was in the 60's and 70's nor can they appreciate how much the environment has been trashed because they don't know what they missed. As just one example of the activism then, the Chittenden County, Vermont, Chapter of ZPG organized a dramatic action to take over 300 people to the tiny Sloop Island in Lake Champlain to demonstrate how crowded the earth would become if the population kept on growing. A remarkable photo of that is also in the history section of Vermonters for Sustainable Population web site. Their prediction certainly proved true.Thank you Derek as a younger man for your great effort in getting this important book published.

While this book contains a wealth of information, it falls well short of a good recommendation. Let's cite some of the ways. It inexcusably fails to discuss the Nixon/Ford administration's important 1975 National Security Memorandum 200 report, except in a tiny obscure footnote. It fails to even mention the Helms and Hyde amendments that block serious efforts to implement the recommendations of the NSSM 200 report and help reduce the threat of world overpopulation. It fails to adequately deal with women's rights of conscience and religious liberty on abortion. It fails to deal at all adequately with what we know about anthropogenic climate change and such concomitants as atmospheric CO2 and methane buildup, rising sea levels, melting glaciers and Greenland and Antarctic ice, deforestation, desertification, overuse of both renewable and nonrenewable resources, soil erosion and nutrient loss, toxic waste accumulation, shrinking biodiversity, and the relationship of all that to human overpopulation. It fails to even mention Al Gore's important bestselling book on overpopulation. It fails to discuss the effective and fanatic opposition to contraception and abortion by religious leaders (Catholic, evangelical, Orthodox Jewish, Muslim, etc.). It fails to discuss the climate change denial movement. It fails to mention the controversy over use of quinocrin for non-surgical sterilization to help contain overpopulation. Jane Edwards has broken her engagement and traveled to England to do research for a book she wants to write. She is a Regency romance author and this looks like a perfect opportunity to visit. However, she's caught in a thunderstorm and transported two hundred years in the past just as the sister of James, Earl of Camden, is murdered.I probably should stop reading Sophie Barnes books. I've read quite a few with mixed results. I don't care for historicals that don't keep to the rules and context of the times they are written in. Ms Barnes tends to be one of those authors who often disregards the rules of the Regency period. I thought this one might be different because Jane is from the present after all, so some latitude should be fine. But it was ridiculous.James starts by suspecting Jane of the murder but soon hires her as a maid. Of course, she doesn't act like a maid (which is fine for her part), but no one else seems to really notice her irregular behavior or even the fact that's she's American. It doesn't seem to matter in a household where there doesn't seem to be differences between a ladies maid, a downstairs maid, or an upstairs maid maybe, but I found it irritating when the household just accepts that it's fine for Jane to sit and have a brandy at ten in the morning with the Earl. But of course, the Earl also has his sister's former tutor as a house guest which also doesn't seem to raise anyone's eyebrows but makes no sense in that time period.James is so obsessed with Jane that the horrific murder of his sister (her throat was slashed) seems like an afterthought. He certainly doesn't seem very sorrowful and neither did his mother. I also found the maligning of her character after her death to be distasteful; it didn't really add to the plot in my opinion.The book also needed some editing. First, the murder weapon is discovered in a garden but then there is discussion about how the knife hasn't been found. There were other inconsistencies like this that just added to the general sloppiness (almost the second or third page Jane is at King's Cross where she sees the 3/4 platform - Harry Potter fans would note it's 9 3/4).Anyway, this was not a book for me.

I love regency romances! I’ve read many of this author’s books and liked them. This book was an exception. The premise was mildly intriguing - modern woman travels back in time to regency England and falls for Earl. The heroine, Jane Edwards, was hard to warm up to - pretty and adventurous but immature and lacking independence. The hero, James, Earl of Camden, was handsome and aristocratic but stiff. They didn’t have much chemistry and no sizzle. The storyline was really silly and many of the scenes lacked credibility. Overall, a disappointment.

'The Girl Who Stepped into The Past' is a delightful Regency Romance in the time travel venue. It's easy to read, and a good rainy day, or 'time at the beach' book. It's perfect for those reading times when an escape is desired, and the reader needs their own 'time to travel' away from the realities of the day.

Not a very unique plot. Lot of thinking, not much action. Of course, the choice was interesting, but fairly obvious. Always like the premise, but unfortunately left me flat. Some good character development, but plot was too familiar. Have enjoyed other books by this author.

Jane and James, this was five stars plus story...It has it all mystery, love, sensually, murder all the drama into one...She is a dam good author, and knows how a good storyline goes..I will read her again and agine

I have read similar time travel stories, but this is a very well executed story. Interesting without being sappy or too far out of the imagination.

I am a sucker for times-travel romance. This hits both Mike like, reagents romance novels and time travel romance. Great.

I’m looking forward to reading this. I really like time-travel novels.

The information in this book seems tailor made for long term smokers. It has a refreshing and realistic approach to quitting. Filled with insight and just good common sense ideas about quitting and so different than the run of the mill ideas. I can't speak for everyone but this book is a breath of fresh air (no pun intended) for those of us who know the drill. It worked for me and I recommend it highly. Good luck. John

She addressed all those situations when it is so easy to fall into the smoking trap, over and over, and over again and shows you how to make the right choice. That is choosing not to smoke. Listen, my smoking friends, no one will do this for you!! This is your time to make the choice not to smoke!! I smoked for almost 40 years and I'm on my way to 5 weeks of being an ex-smoker. I'm doing it and I feel great!!

I listened to the audio version of this book after I had stopped smoking. The book recommends that you listen/read it before you actually quit, and I think this is good advice. I had smoked for approximately 20 years and, while never a heavy smoker (5 per day), I was heavily addicted, nonetheless. This book helped me understand why I stopped with ease when I was pregnant, but went right back to it each time and have never been able to just stop.The fundamental difference this book takes is that, unlike other "quick fix" methods that aim to eliminate your desire to smoke, the author forces you to acknowledge that you desire to smoke. This desire will lessen with time -- but can strike at anytime; therefore, you must develope some techniques for dealing with that desire. She even encourages you to face your desire and temptation head on. If you smoke while commutting or when having drinks with friends -- don't avoid these activities at first -- you are only trying to avoid the desire and then you become afraid of the desire itself. The desire is normal for anyone who has smoked. It's not to be feared, because you alone have the choice of whether to stop smoking or become a smoker again -- which, the author reminds you is a drug addiction that kills or disables at least 50 percent of the people who do it.I have only been stopped for a couple of weeks, but feel very empowered by my choice to stop smoking. I used to say that I smoked because I liked it, and to a degree that is true, but I was also a slave to it and was dishonest with my children when I would be hiding out back while smoking. It feels good to not be a slave to cigarettes or to be lying to my family about it-- even though those things never bothered me before. I feel free and empowered. I still want a cigarette, but I'm not afraid I won't be able to cope with that feeling.Update: 4 and a half years later and I have not smoked a single cigarette. I feel proud of myself and am so happy I made the decision to quit and to use this book as an aid to my quitting because I credit this book for a good amount of the staying success I have had. It has certain chapters near the end that are designed to keep you from starting smoking again by falling into some of the traps that you will face down the road. Slip ups that can turn into a slippery slope of turning into a full-blown smoker again. When I would find myself in one of the scenarios (i.e. telling myself I would just have one cigarette, or if I was out for drinks with my friends I could have one cigarette), I would remember some of the language in this book and know that no, I had already shown myself that I was not capable of being a casual smoker (if such a thing really exists). I agree with the review below that states that this book takes the magic out of stopping smoking. You can do it and you can do it without any gum, patches, pills, etc.
